SATURDAY APRIL 16, 2011

"Paint Your Heart Out" day will involve the exterior painting and repairing of 15 homes in Chesapeake. The effort will include donations of money and material from a variety of banks, businesses, and individuals, as well as hands on participation by church groups, clubs, military personnel and other civic and service organizations.

Since its inception in 1992, Paint Your Heart Out (PYHO) has been an incredible success and has exemplified Rotary International’s motto of “Service Above Self.”  This event has attracted thousands of volunteers and has aided almost 400 homeowners in the City of Chesapeake.  Recipients, who are often unable to maintain their own homes, are ecstatic with the outcome; and volunteers benefit knowing that they’ve made a difference in someone’s life.

Through this project, over 350 volunteers from local businesses, civic clubs, and church groups will join together to paint and repair the exterior of fifteen homes owned by elderly or disabled citizens that fall below the poverty line.

Some of the event sponsors have included: The Courthouse Café, Panera Bread, Mc Donalds, Buffalo Wild Wings, Home Depot, Lowes, and various other businesses in the community.

This year’s PYHO event will take place on Saturday, April 16th, 2011.  For more information or if you are interested in volunteering your time or sponsorship opportunities, please  contact Rhonda Kundrat @ Rkundrat@hotmail.com.

To be eligible for the "Paint Your Heart Out" program, a homeowner(s) must

  1. live in the home
  2. be age 62 and older
  3. have an annual income not exceeding $16,000 ($25,000 combined).

Disabled homeowners and those with exceptional circumstances may also qualify.
